Some ice skating fans may not know that the figure skaters competing for the United States in upcoming 2014 Winter Olympic Games have not been selected yet. The upcoming 2014 US Figure Skating Championships, which will begin on January 5 and conclude on January 12, 2014, is where those who have qualified for the national championship senior level figure skating events will be trying to earn spots on the 2014 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team.  

The upcoming national championships may have ice skating fans "sitting at the edge of their seats" since the anticipation will be overwhelming. Everyone wants to know which figure skaters will represent the USA in 2014!  US national champions will be competing against one another and the competition should be full of surprises.

No guarantees can be made on who will "make the team," but below are some of the skaters to pay attention to when the US Figure Skating Championships comes to you via network television during the weekend of January 11th and 12th, 2013:


  • Ashley Wagner - Two-time US Ladies Figure Skating Champion
  • Gracie Gold - 2013 US Ladies Silver Medalist
  • Agnes Zawadzki - 2013 US Ladies Bronze Medalist
  • Rachael Flatt - 2010 US Ladies Figure Skating Champion and 2010 Olympian


  • Caydee Denney and John Coughlin - 2012 US Pair Skating Champions (Caydee was also a 2010 Olympian)
  • Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier - 2013 World Junior Champions (Haven is Caydee Denney's sister)
  • Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir - 2013 US Pair Sakting Champions
  • Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim - 2013 US Silver Medalists


  • Max Aaron - 2013 US Men's Figure Skating Champion
  • Jeremy Abbott - Three-Time US Men's Champion and 2010 Olympian
  • Joshua Farris - 2013 World Junior Champion
  • Ross Miner - 2013 US Men's Silver Medalist

Ice Dance:

  • Meryl Davis and Charlie White - 2010 Olympic Silver Medalists and Two-Time World Ice Dance Champions
  • Maia and Alex Shibutani - World Ice Dance Bronze Medalists and Silver and Bronze Medalists US Championships
  • Madison Chock and Evan Bates - 2013 US Ice Dance Silver Medalists
  • Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue - 2013 US Ice Dance Pewter Medalists

It seems fitting that Boston is the host of the 2014 championships during an Olympic year since the very first U.S. Figure Skating Championships was held in Boston in 1922.   Are you getting excited about Sochi 2014?
